Does my French number stay active on WhatsApp?
Yes. Your French SIM stays in the phone and the eSIM carries data only, so WhatsApp and your calls home keep running on the number your family already has.
Does it work in Setif and Bejaia, not just Algiers?
Yes. Djezzy, Mobilis and Ooredoo all cover the northern belt from Oran through Algiers to Annaba on 4G/LTE. Deep in the south the connection can fall back to 3G.
What would roaming on my French contract cost?
Algeria is outside the EU roaming rules, so the EU allowance in your French plan does not apply and data is billed out of bundle. A 10 GB eSIM is €13.59, paid upfront.
Can I call Algerian numbers with it?
Not directly. The plan is data only, with no calls and no SMS. WhatsApp, Messenger and FaceTime calls work over the data, which is how most people on this route use it.
What if it does not connect when I land?
