Does my German number stay active on WhatsApp?
Yes. Your German SIM stays in the phone and the eSIM carries data only, so WhatsApp keeps working on the number your family already has.
Do I still need a physical SIM card, or is the eSIM enough?
The eSIM is enough for data in Turkey. Keep your German SIM card in the phone for your home number and calls; the eSIM handles the internet on Turkcell or Vodafone.
Does it work in the village, not just Istanbul?
Turkcell and Vodafone cover nearly all inhabited areas including small towns on 4G/LTE. In remote eastern provinces the connection can fall back to 3G.
What would roaming on my German contract cost?
