How to install an eSIM
Last updated June 2026
Installing a SimFuse eSIM takes a couple of minutes. Do it on Wi-Fi before you leave home, and you'll connect automatically the moment you land. Here's how on both iPhone and Android.
Before you start
Make sure your phone is eSIM-compatible and carrier-unlocked, and that you're on Wi-Fi. Have your SimFuse confirmation email or the app open - that's where your QR code lives. Installing now won't use any data or start your plan; the clock only starts when you connect abroad.
Install an eSIM on iPhone
- Connect to Wi-Fi and open Settings → Cellular (or Mobile Data).
- Tap 'Add eSIM' or 'Add Data Plan'.
- Scan the QR code from your SimFuse confirmation, or tap 'Install from app'.
- Label the plan 'Travel' so it's easy to find.
- Set the SimFuse eSIM as your Cellular Data line and turn off Data Roaming on your home SIM.
Install an eSIM on Android
Samsung, Google Pixel and most others
- Connect to Wi-Fi and open Settings → Network & Internet → SIMs.
- Tap 'Add eSIM' or 'Download a SIM instead'.
- Scan the QR code from your SimFuse confirmation, or install via the app.
- Enable the eSIM and set it as your mobile data SIM.
- Turn off roaming on your physical SIM so only the eSIM uses data.
Menu names vary slightly by manufacturer, but the flow is always: add eSIM → scan QR or install in-app → set as data line.
When you arrive
Turn on the SimFuse eSIM's data and make sure roaming is enabled for that line (this lets it use the local partner network - you still pay nothing extra). Your plan activates automatically and you're online.
